Plant spring bulbs roughly 2-3 times as deep as the bulb measures from top to bottom. Large bulbs need to be planted deeper than small bulbs. There are a few exceptions to this rule:

Anemones and Ranunculus bulbs should only be around 3cm below the soil surface. Eremurus like to be only slightly (around 1-2cm) below the soil surface.

Bare root peonies should be planted with the buds no more than 3cm below the soil surface. Other bare roots supplied with shoots, such as papaver and hollyhocks, should be planted with the shoots exposed above the soil surface and only the roots in the soil
