VILLAGE GREEN WAS ZAC'S SECOND SOLAR HOUSE BUILD. IT WAS A COMBINATION OF PASSIVE AND ACTIVE AIR SOLAR. THE FRONT PANELS COLLECTED HEAT THAT WAS DRAWN INTO A HEAT EXCHANGER STORAGE UNIT (10 TONS OF SAND) UNDER THE SOLARIUM LIVING ROOM. THE LIVING ROOM WAS DESIGED AS A PASSIVE SOLAR GAIN WITH THE DARK FLOOR ALSO TRANSFERING HEAT TO THE EXCHANGER. ANY HEAT DURING THE DAY WOULD ALSO RISE TO A VENT AND A THERMOSTAT AT THE TOP WOULD ACTIVE AND DRAW THE HEAT INTO THE EXCHANGER (THE SAME AS THE HEAT FROM THE FIREPLACE). AT NIGHT THE FURNACE THERMOSTAT WOULD TURN ON THE FURNACE AFTER THE HEAT HAD BEEN EXTRACTED FROM THE HEAT STORAGE OF THE EXCHANGER.
THIS HOUSE WAS ALSO AN EXERSIZE IN SPACE MANAGEMENT. ELEMINATING HALL WAYS TO A MINIMUM AND EXPOSING THEM TO SURROUNDING ROOMS MADE THIS 1500 SQ. FT. HOUSE SEEMS LARGER., HOSTING 3 BEDROOMS, KITCHEN, TWO BATHROOMS, SOLARIUM LIVING ROOM AND FAMILY ROOM .
