How does Allah describe the vastness of His mercy?
Brothers, sisters, friends and elders Assalamu Alaikum, wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu, we are presenting the 124th episode of the Islamic informative video based on healing and events from the Holy Quran, and in this video we will describe,How does Allah describe the vastness of His mercy?
Allah's mercy is one of the most emphasized and repeatedly mentioned attributes in the Qur’an and Hadith. He describes His mercy as vast, boundless, and encompassing all things. This divine mercy is not limited to the righteous alone but extends even to the disbelievers in this world. Every chapter of the Qur’an (except Surah At-Tawbah) begins with the words "Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim", meaning "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful."* This constant reminder reinforces the centrality of mercy in Allah’s dealings with His creation.
In Surah Al-A'raf verse 156, Allah clearly declares:
"My mercy encompasses all things. So I will decree it for those who fear Me and give zakah and those who believe in Our verses."
This verse shows the universal nature of Allah’s mercy. It includes all creation—humans, animals, believers, and non-believers alike. However, in terms of special or saving mercy (rahmah khassah), Allah specifies it for those who are conscious of Him (taqwa), give charity, and follow His revelation. The verse demonstrates that although Allah’s general mercy is for all, His special mercy is reserved for the pious and obedient.
In Surah Az-Zumar verse 53, Allah gives one of the most hopeful messages in the Qur’an:
"Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'"
This verse is a divine invitation to every sinner, no matter how great their sin. It reflects the vastness of Allah’s mercy that surpasses the severity of any sin. The command *"Do not despair"* is a strong message that no one should ever lose hope in Allah’s forgiveness. This verse has been a source of comfort and repentance for countless Muslims throughout history.
Another powerful reference is in Surah Al-An’am verse 12, where Allah asks:
"Say: To whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth?" Say: 'To Allah.' He has decreed upon Himself mercy."
Here, Allah makes a profound statement that He has made mercy obligatory upon Himself. This self-imposed commitment shows how central mercy is in His divine nature. It reassures believers that the default mode of Allah's dealing with His creation is mercy, not punishment.
In the Hadith literature, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) described the mercy of Allah in beautiful metaphors. In Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 5999, the Prophet (PBUH) said:
"When Allah created the creation, He wrote in His Book which is with Him on His Throne: ‘Indeed, My mercy prevails over My wrath.’"
This hadith teaches us that although Allah is capable of punishment, His mercy always outweighs His anger. This gives believers hope, especially in times of hardship, guilt, and fear.
Another touching hadith in **Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2752, states:
The Prophet (PBUH) saw a woman searching for her lost baby, and when she found it, she hugged it tightly. He then said to his companions: ‘Do you think this woman would throw her child in the fire?’ They said, ‘No, by Allah.’ He said: ‘Allah is more merciful to His servants than this woman is to her child.’
This comparison shows the tender and protective nature of Allah’s mercy. If a human mother cannot bear to see her child in pain, then Allah’s mercy is even greater than that maternal instinct.
In conclusion, Allah describes His mercy as vast, universal, and greater than any love or compassion known to man. It is the first and last hope for every believer. Whether through the verses of the Qur’an or the sayings of the Prophet (PBUH), the message is clear: never despair of Allah’s mercy, for it covers all sins, embraces all creation, and surpasses all expectations.
With this, we ask for your permission until tomorrow and pray to Allah Almighty to grant us the ability to act on the Quran and Hadith, Amen
Allah Hafiz
