Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 23, is one of the most famous and frequently performed piano concertos in the history of classical music. The concerto premiered in Boston in 1875 by pianist Hans von Bülow (who championed the work after Rubinstein’s initial rejection). Despite mixed reviews, it quickly gained popularity, becoming a favorite of legendary pianists such as Van Cliburn, whose 1958 performance won the First International Tchaikovsky Competition and cemented the work’s place in classical music history.
