Midori- meaning Green. Similar to the one in Vid 1, but more Metallic Gold with a Green hue. It is a Mirror scale (row of scales on top).
Kumonryu- White with Black markings. An unstable color and can change color 5-6 times in its lifetime. The book says it is a Shusui mixed with a Matsubakawabakke, but I'm led to believe it is a Shusui mixed with a Karasu (ancient black). Because of the Shusui lineage, the Koi will usually demonstrate Shusui markings with a dirty head and a dab of blue. Best to choose one with Black markings across the head. What to look for is the 'Shark Eyes', some will NOT have them. I prefer the dark eyes always. It usually has Black mostly through the top-side of the Koi, with very little black below the lateral lines. This particular Koi is just the opposite, a 'recessive' in my eyes.
Kikokuryu- A Black, Large scale, Diamond scale. Hard to find. Most Diamond scales on Black do NOT show up clearly on the Black. If you look at a Showa, or a Sanke with Diamond scales, they are usually 'weak' in the shiny part. Always try to find a Diamond scale with Bright shine on the scales on the Black color.
Kujaku- with Matsuba markings. Start with the White Metallic head, and fairly clear. The heart of the scales are Black and Depressed with a Metallic White Border. Symmetry is important to me in Large scales. Considering the mixture of breeds, this is a fine example. Trying to label this type of fish is not easy.
Kikokuryu- If you look at the Head you will see the pattern of a Large Butterfly. Pretty in my book. If you look closer, very faint on the pics, but it is a Large scale. No outline on the borders of the scales which makes it hard to see. Clean, matching pectoral fins as well.
Butterfly Fin-Kikokuryu- Similar to the one before it, so don't mix them up. What is unique about this one is the Light Lime Green color on the head. It is a Mirror (row of scales on top, with great symmetry to those scales. The lateral lines are clear/clean of any scales. This particular Butterfly Fin has a very large Black tail.
Butterfly Fin-Kujaku with many colors. Aside from the long pectoral fins, it also has very long whiskers. It does NOT have matching pectoral fins, but does have Black Eyes. Pretty.
Heisei Nishiki- Basically a Traditional Koi, that is, a Showa or a Sanke mixed with a Platinum White. It is a Leather scale meaning No Scales, except along the Dorsal fin.
