"Broken Toys" is the third episode of The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series - The Final Season, serving as the penultimate and nineteenth episode overall in the series. It was written by Lauren Mee and directed by Ryan D. Chan and Chris Rieser. Notably, it was the first episode to be released by Skybound Games after Telltale Games ceased most operations in October 2018, and it was officially released on January 15, 2019

The episode begins shortly after the events of "Suffer The Children," with Clementine's group recovering from an attack by the Delta. The primary objective of "Broken Toys" is to locate and rescue their captured friends from the Delta's ship. This involves interrogating Abel, a captured Delta member, for information about the ship's location and the Delta's plans [1].

The plot unfolds in three acts: "Whispers," "Shoreline," and "Leader" [1].

Act One: Whispers The episode opens with Clementine and AJ in the burned-down school, where Willy is mourning Mitch's death. Clementine interrogates Abel, who was left behind after the Delta's attack. Depending on Clementine's previous choices regarding AJ's hardening, the interrogation can involve torture or a more diplomatic approach. Abel eventually reveals that the captured students were taken to a boat a few miles west of the school, and that the Delta is conscripting people for a war against a more formidable enemy [1].

Clementine, AJ, Willy, and the chosen companion (Louis or Violet, depending on who was saved in the previous episode) then scout the Delta's ship. During this scouting mission, Clementine discovers that the companion she failed to save in the previous episode (Louis or Violet) is being held captive on the ship. They devise a plan to use a herd of walkers as a distraction to board the ship. Clementine also encounters Minerva, a former student of Ericson's and Violet's ex-girlfriend, who is now a member of the Delta. Minerva warns Clementine against fighting the Delta, claiming it will lead to more deaths [1]. Clementine and AJ then seek out James, a former Whisperer, to help them gather a walker herd. James, who has a unique perspective on walkers, agrees to help after Clementine either respects his beliefs about walkers or persuades him by emphasizing the value of human lives over walkers [1].

Act Two: Shoreline Clementine and AJ return to the school, where Ruby is preparing a party to boost morale before the dangerous mission. AJ expresses his fears about Clementine turning into a walker, and Clementine can choose to reassure him or harden him. The episode also features a significant dream sequence where Clementine speaks with Lee Everett, her former guardian, who offers advice and reassurance about her responsibilities [1]. The group also works on building a bomb, with Willy leading the effort, and players can choose a name for it [1].

Act Three: Leader The group, covered in walker guts, infiltrates the Delta's ship amidst the walker herd. They plant the bomb in the boiler room. Clementine and her chosen companion (Louis or Violet) then proceed to the brig to rescue the prisoners. They confront Minerva, who initially appears to help them but then betrays Clementine, imprisoning her with the other captured students. Lilly, the leader of the Delta and a character from Clementine's past, arrives and reveals that Minerva killed her own sister, Sophie, to prove her loyalty to the Delta [1].

A tense confrontation ensues where Lilly attempts to break Clementine and the other students. Depending on player choices, AJ can either attack Dorian, a Delta member, preventing the mutilation of Louis/Violet, or be stopped, resulting in the loss of a finger [1]. Lilly then takes AJ, intending to indoctrinate him. Clementine escapes her cell and confronts Lilly on the deck. James and Tennessee are also present, having been captured. A struggle ensues, and AJ holds Lilly at gunpoint. Clementine faces a critical choice: tell AJ to kill Lilly or tell him to lower the gun. This decision has significant consequences for Lilly and James [1]. If AJ kills Lilly, James is shocked but survives. If AJ spares Lilly, she kills James [1]. The bomb then detonates, and Clementine is knocked unconscious as the ship explodes
