Why did Jesus have to suffer so much?

I got to Mass early on Wednesday and was staring at the Crucifix. I found myself asking, “why did you have to suffer so much, Lord?” I understood it was to fulfill prophesy, but why the brutal prophesy in the first place? Jesus’ Blood needed to be shed for our redemption, but why so much suffering?

From Paul, “Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.” In our weakest moments, Jesus is there and understands! Align your sufferings with His for His glory!
