In the depths of space, on the far side of the galaxy, the SOR rescues a reported escape pod, and in doing so make a discovery which will begin to profoundly shape the future of the galaxy, and help further cement the relationship between mankind and the Gao.

Meanwhile, the Hierarchy are not gone from Earth; nor have they been dormant; and they move quietly in the shadows to try to destabilize global politics in the hopes that we will destroy ourselves.
