Resident Evil 7 - Part 19

Why do all the creepiest parts of horror games and movies revolve around children? At this point in the game walking around with a flame throw and grenade launcher I felt pretty much ready for anything. But as soon as I put the lantern in place to unlock the door, and the game used the old "ball dropping rolling toward you" trope... my heart rate increased and I immediately started moving at a snails pace.

Something this game does very well to maintain its fear factor is that it spreads out it's jump scares. They do happen frequently but, but not enough to desensitize you to the experience. In this entire segment that you see in the clip I was waiting for it, but it never happened. All the while the tension kept building. It's simple, and a pretty basic element in horror games and movies, but if you neglect it your game will quickly become just another mediocre shooter or walking simulator.
(While not a jump scare, what happens at 7:15 was really creepy)
