Donald Trump envoy meets Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu
The US' special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, has met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem.
Their talks are believed to have included a renewed push to salvage stalled ceasefire talks and a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as well as the return of hostages still held by Hamas.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of increasing Interntional pressure on Israel as Canada and Portugal have joined France and Britain in saying they will recognise - or are considering recognising - Palestinian statehood if the situation continues and certain conditions are met.

Trump condemns 'disgusting' Russian attacks on Ukraine and confirms sanctions threat
US President Donald Trump has condemned Russia’s actions in Ukraine, saying “I think it’s disgusting what they’re doing”. Trump confirmed that he plans to impose economic sanctions on Moscow within days if no ceasefire agreement is reached.
It follows some of the deadliest Russian attacks on Ukraine’s capital since Russia’s full scale invasion. Officials in Kyiv say at least 16 people were killed and more than 150 injured, many of them children, when missiles rained down on residential areas of the city.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, President Trump said he was not sure whether sanctions would deter Russia. He has given Russian President Vladimir Putin until August 8 to agree a deal or face tariffs and economic sanctions.

US announces new tariffs for dozens of countries
The White House has released new levies for dozens of countries, all of which will come into effect on Thursday.
Canada's tariff rose from 25% to 35% - though most Canadian goods will be exempt due to an existing trade treaty.
Prime Minister Mark Carney says his government is "disappointed" by US President Donald Trump's decision.
Higher tariffs for Mexico have been paused for another 90 days, while Brazil faces the biggest increase, with Trump raising tariffs on Latin America’s largest economy to 50%.
Donald Trump first announced his tariff plan in April, sending chaos rippling through the world economy. But he paused it so countries could negotiate new trade deals, which include the UK and EU.
