Why does US President Donald Trump keep saying wind turbines are killing whales?

U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that offshore wind turbines are killing whales, a statement that has sparked both public debate and scientific rebuttal. Trump has voiced these concerns at several rallies and interviews, stating that the increasing number of dead whales washing ashore on the U.S. East Coast is directly linked to the construction and operation of offshore wind farms.

“They're driving whales crazy… they're washing up on shore — nobody’s ever seen anything like it,” Trump said during a campaign speech.

However, marine scientists and environmental agencies, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), have said there is no evidence linking whale deaths to wind turbines. According to experts, most of the whale strandings are due to vessel strikes, fishing gear entanglements, and long-standing ocean pollution not turbine related activity.

Trump’s remarks align with broader political resistance to renewable energy projects, particularly wind energy, which he has long criticized for its aesthetics, noise, and impact on wildlife.

The issue has become a flashpoint in debates over climate policy, energy infrastructure, and environmental responsibility, raising questions about the balance between renewable development and marine conservation.
