Minnesota has activated the National Guard’s cyber unit after a “deliberate, coordinated” cyberattack overwhelmed St. Paul’s digital systems.

Mayor Melvin Carter said the city shut down its entire network to contain the threat, causing disruptions to Wi-Fi, libraries, and other services, though emergency systems remain unaffected.

The city is working with the FBI and two private cybersecurity firms to investigate.

While the attack’s specifics haven’t been disclosed, it bears hallmarks of a ransomware incident, The Guardian has reported.

Officials are assessing potential data breaches and urging employees to secure their digital information.
