Custard Pie (1929) is a slapstick animated comedy from Paul Terry’s Aesop’s Fables series, blending food fights, barnyard antics, and synchronized musical gags in a fast-paced cartoon set during the early sound era.

Synopsis:

It’s chaos in the kitchen and mayhem on Main Street when a group of barnyard animals open their own pie shop! Things start sweet, with chickens rolling dough, pigs stirring custard, and a goat proudly decorating the window with a sign:
“PIES BAKED DAILY – NO QUESTIONS ASKED.”

But when a rival bakery across the street opens , run by a group of sly alley cats , a custard war erupts! Pies fly across the street in a full-blown slapstick battle: banana cream bombs, lemon meringue missiles, and a secret weapon , a 10-layer blueberry torpedo.

As the pastry warfare escalates, townsfolk duck for cover and musical notes swirl with each impact. The climax comes as the pie shop itself explodes in a blast of whipped cream, filling the screen with one final SPLAT!

The cartoon closes with a typical Aesop-style moral flashing on-screen:
“He who throws first... gets frosted last.”

The Goat Baker – Proud but clumsy owner of the barnyard pie shop
