Under-Reported.
There are crimes so buried in silence that they might as well be ghosts—unseen, unheard, and unspoken. One such crime is the abuse of children under the guise of faith or belief, particularly where witchcraft, possession, and ritual practices are involved.
It’s called Abuse Linked to Faith or Belief, and it’s tragically under-reported.
We’re talking about children being accused of witchcraft, of being possessed by demons, or being labelled as the cause of misfortune—simply for being different, disobedient, or unlucky enough to be in the wrong family or community.
We’re talking about exorcisms, beatings, isolation, starvation, psychological torture—sometimes even death.
The Lies They Tell.
They call it "deliverance." They say it’s "casting out the devil." They frame it as "saving the soul."
But no child should be broken in the name of belief.
This isn’t just a cultural misunderstanding. This is abuse. And it's being ignored because it wears the cloak of religion.
It’s easier for professionals to look the other way than risk being accused of racism or cultural insensitivity. It’s easier to say nothing than to challenge someone’s sacred belief. And so it continues.
Spotting the Signs Before It’s Too Late.
The abuse doesn’t always start with fire and violence. It starts with words. With labels. With subtle harms—the child being told they are evil, cursed, or bringing misfortune.
From there, it escalates.
And when a child dies during a so-called exorcism, or is found mutilated in the name of “deliverance,” only then do the headlines appear.
Too late. Too little.
"Under Reported" — The Song That Says What Many Won’t.
To shine a light on this hidden horror, I wrote a song called “Under Reported.” It’s a ballad for the broken. An anthem for the voiceless. A warning to all of us who pretend not to see.
Under reported, swept away Truth in shadows, night hides day No one saw, or dared to see What belief had claimed as destiny…
These aren’t just lyrics. This is reality.
We Must Speak Now.
There is no excuse left. Not for social workers. Not for teachers. Not for police. And certainly not for us, the public.
Faith does not excuse abuse. Culture does not excuse cruelty. Silence does not save children.
If even one child is branded as “possessed” and beaten, that’s one too many.
And it’s happening. It’s happening in communities across the UK. It’s happening in the shadows. And it’s under reported.
Final Word.
Let this blog be a flare in the dark. Let it remind us that some crimes hide behind prayers. And let it compel us to call abuse what it is—even when it wears a holy robe.
Because the price of silence is far too high when it’s paid in children’s lives.
