This is a special episode of The Lou Perez Podcast. So special, in fact, that it’s not even an episode of The Lou Perez Podcast. No, it’s my appearance on Isaac Simpson’s podcast, The Carousel.
Isaac was kind enough to have me on to take a deep dive into possibly the most important article to come out this year, ⁠Jean Garnett’s “The Trouble with Wanting Men⁠,” as published in the New York Times.
OK, it’s definitely not the most important article, but it’s damn entertaining and revealing about where and when some of us are. (It even tricked me into buying a subscription to The Times.)

Dear, Jean: Maybe dating is hard for you because you’re so annoying and this is the breed of “man” you’re seeing: ‘He tends to signal, in various ways, his exemption from the tainted category of “men,” and it is perfectly understandable that he would wish to do so. It must be mildly embarrassing to be a straight man, and it is incumbent upon each of them to mitigate this embarrassment in a way that feels authentic to him.’
