How Do We Recognize Heresy and What Do We Do About It?

What is the nature of heresy as defined in the New Testament? How do we distinguish heresy from improper understanding of biblical teaching in the New Testament? There are biblical admonitions given by Jesus and the apostles regarding those who follow or teach heresy in the life of the church. How should the church deal with heretical teaching, particularly of several forms that are present in the contemporary church?
