Hello everyone. In today's Bible study we continue our journey through the letters to the seven churches given to the apostle John by the Lord Jesus.

We are still examining the letter written to the church at Smyrna and today we will turn our attention to one of the main issues that church was having due to the blasphemy of the Jews.

What is that? First it was legalism which we addressed last week. Today we are dealing with Gnosticism. Gnosti-what? Gnosticism, friend. It is the denial of Christ’s humanity making the cross of none effect as the Old Testament prophecies declared that Christ will be both God and Man. This is prevalent in cults like Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witness, etc. and false religions like Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc.

Friend, do you realize how essential the doctrine of the humanity of God is to the gospel? Take that out of the gospel then you will have no gospel. Take that out of the scriptures then everything else becomes just stories and lies.

No God-Man, no hope, no salvation, no heaven.

Paul said the same thing concerning the resurrection that if you remove the resurrection from the gospel then we are above all men most miserable and are found to be liars before God because our claims are false.

How then did these people come to this conclusion that Jesus is not God and that God will never be a man? They received it from demons who fed the lie to the Jews due to the hardness of their hearts and lack of understanding of the Old Testament scriptures.

That’s where it began then as the Gentiles interacted with the early church which was all Jewish, these false prophets and teachers emerged out of the shadows to begin teaching this heresy.

From there it blossomed into a full fledge doctrine of demons. Nevertheless, the Lord God’s word prevails over and against all the lies of demons.

Today’s study is 1 hour and 11 minutes in duration. I have broken it into seven segments. This is segment 1 of 7 titled Gnosticism in Smyrna the doctrine of demons. Part 1
