In the Qur’an, Allah warns mankind repeatedly about Satan (Iblis), describing him as a **clear and open enemy whose sole mission is to lead human beings astray. One of the most direct warnings comes in Surah Al-A‘raf verse 27, where Allah addresses the children of Adam with a historical reminder and a timeless command:

"O Children of Adam! Let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their garments to show them their shame. Indeed, he sees you—he and his tribe—from where you do not see them. We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe."

This verse presents a clear warning from Allah about the deception of Satan and uses a powerful example from the past—the story of Adam (peace be upon him) and Hawwa (Eve). Satan deceived them in Paradise and caused their expulsion. This event is one of the earliest and most significant examples of Satan’s misguidance. By highlighting this incident, Allah warns every human being not to repeat the same mistake. Satan is described not only as an enemy but as one who is invisible, watching and planning against humans from a realm they cannot see, making his danger even more serious.

The Qur’an narrates in several places how Iblis arrogantly disobeyed Allah when commanded to prostrate before Adam:

in Surah Al-A‘raf, verse 12:
"He [Iblis] said, 'I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay.'"

This arrogance and disobedience marked the beginning of his rebellion. Allah then cursed him and declared that he would be cast out and that his mission would be to mislead humanity. Iblis, in return, made a vow:

In Surah Al-A‘raf, verse 16–17
"Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path. Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them, and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful."

This vow reveals Satan’s multi-directional attack strategy—approaching humans from every side to lead them away from gratitude and obedience to Allah. Thus, Allah warns believers to be constantly vigilant.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) also warned against Satan’s deceptions. In a hadith found in Sahih Muslim Hadith 2174, he said:

“Indeed, Satan flows through the son of Adam like the flowing of blood.”

This metaphor illustrates how close Satan is to human beings and how constantly he attempts to whisper and influence their thoughts, decisions, and actions.

Another hadith narrated by Abu Huraira in Sahih al-Bukhari Hadith 608 confirms Satan’s tactics even during acts of worship:

"When the call to prayer is made, Satan runs away with farting noise so that he may not hear the adhan..."

Satan’s goal is to distract believers from acts of worship and to implant laziness, forgetfulness, pride, and sin in their hearts. From small whispers to major sins, he works gradually to corrupt one's faith.

Allah provides the best strategy to avoid following Satan. In Surah An-Nur verse 21, Allah says:

"O you who have believed, do not follow the footsteps of Satan. And whoever follows the footsteps of Satan—indeed, he enjoins immorality and wrongdoing."

The phrase “footsteps of Satan” refers to gradual steps starting with minor wrongs that lead to major sins. Therefore, believers are commanded not even to take the first step towards disobedience.

In conclusion, Allah’s warning against following Satan is extremely serious and repeatedly emphasized in the Qur’an. The story of Adam and Eve serves as a historical example and reminder that Satan’s deception is real and dangerous. The believer must remain vigilant, seek protection through **dhikr (remembrance of Allah), Qur’an, prayer, and taqwa (God-consciousness). Disobedience to Satan is obedience to Allah, and through this path, we remain protected from his traps.
