In this video I show you how the liquid detergent dispenser cups dispenses the liquids in front load washing machines. I show you how the liquid gets from the cup and into the machine.

Most of these newer front load washers can accommodate powder and liquid detergents. In my particular washer, I remove the blue detergent cup to use powder detergent. Others have a gate you open that allows powders to be dispensed into the washer. The reason why you can't use powders in the cups meant for liquids is because powders tend to cake up and will clog the tube that siphons the liquid products out of the liquid dispenser. The only cup that doesn't matter in my washer is the pre-wash cup. And if you use liquid fabric softener, it is a good idea to add a little bit of water to it to thin it out because putting it in straight can over time clog things up too. If you have ever noticed how there is a gummy residue in your fabric softener cap, this same thing can occur in the fabric softener dispenser cup.

If you use those pre-measured detergent pods, you toss those right into the washer before you start the load. You can't put these in the dispenser tray. However that may change in future models. But I don't know. The best thing to do is to read your owners manual to find our the best way to put products into your washer.
