Welcome one and all to Pacific414 Pop Talk for Sunday July 27th 2025!

During this edition of Pacific414 Pop Talk, we are getting our best golf clubs and heading out to the green as we watch and react to both the original Happy Gilmore from 1996 and it's Netflix sequel Happy Gilmore 2.

Happy Gilmore (1996) was released by Universal Pictures on February 16, 1996 under director Dennis Dugan and written by Tim Herlihy and Adam Sandler with Adan Sandler starring in the titular role of Happy Gilmore.

Co-starring with Sandler in Happy Gilmore is Frances Bay as Grandma, Christopher MacDonald as professional golfer Shooter McGavin, Julie Bowen as Virginia Ventit, Carl Weathers as Chubbs with appearances by Saturday Night Live alum Kevin Nealon, Robert Smigel, Verne Lunquist and former host of The Price is Right, Bob Barker.

When the IRS comes to claim the beloved home of Happy Gilmore's grandmother due to unpaid taxes, Happy who is an avid hockey player enters the world of professional golf after discovering he has an unique ability.

What is the premise of Happy Gilmore 2?

After winning his first Tour Championship in 1996,[a] Happy Gilmore has a successful career on the golf course, winning five more gold jackets. He also has five kids with his wife Virginia Venit. However, Happy accidentally kills her in 2014 when one of his drive shots hits her in the head, leaving him with their five kids. Feeling devastated and guilty, Happy throws away his golf clubs, vowing to never play golf again. Happy soon becomes an alcoholic and loses everything, including his grandmother's house, which he inherited.

Happy Gilmore 2 is a 2025 American sports comedy film directed by Kyle Newacheck, and written by Tim Herlihy and Adam Sandler. It is a sequel to Happy Gilmore (1996). Sandler, Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, Ben Stiller, and Dennis Dugan reprise their roles from the original film while Benny Safdie and Bad Bunny join the film as new cast members.

Filming for Happy Gilmore 2 took place in New Jersey from September to December of 2024. It was released onto Netflix on July 25, 2025, with mixed reviews from critics.
