HAYES: “I’ve seen growing calls from all sorts of different places, from international ngos to members of Congress like yourself, about the dire situation in Gaza. Real. A real growing consensus that there’s a genuine catastrophe brewing. We’ve already seen deaths from starvation and famine. You said this on July 22nd. Israel must stop these attacks on people seeking aid. There are starving children in Gaza. More needs to be done to end this crisis. As a us senator, what can you do in your role to pressure the Israeli government to change its policy such that we do not see more starving children die in Gaza?”

Kelly: “Well, Chris, we Can put pressure on the Israeli ambassador to the us and Netanyahu and other government officials. Let me tell you what I’ve been doing over the last week or so. Is trying to, you know, figure out where the food aid is. There’s a couple companies here in the United States, one in Rhode Island, I think the other is in Georgia that has what’s called rutf, which is a food mixture in a pouch. By my staff’s calculation here, there’s about 84 million of these pouches. Now, some in my in my conversations with the secretary of state, you know, some of these are held back for, you know, possible future disasters. But so I am trying to sort out where is the food aid, who needs it? Is it unicef or the world food program? I’ve been on the phone with Cindy McCain about this over the last several days and texting with her, trying to figure out where it is and where it needs to go to relieve some of this malnutrition and starvation. That’s not only happening in Gaza, but the sudan, Afghanistan and other places.”
