Mina, NY - The New York Attorney General’s Office has released the body cam footage of both deputies involved in a fatal shooting last month in the Town of Mina.

The four-minute video shows deputies arrive and tell 66-year-old Mark Bemis of Mina to drop the weapon he was holding several times, with Bemis holding a long gun, also threatening to shoot the officers, who noted that he pointed the gun at them.

In Deputy Dietzal’s body cam footage, about three and a half minutes after arriving and telling Bemis to drop his weapon, gunfire rings out, ending with Bemis being fatally shot.

Deputy Summers’ footage shows him pleading with Bemis before exchanging gunfire and being shot in his hand.

Police were called to a house in Mina, New York, for a domestic incident just after 3:30 on June 18, arriving at the Mina French Creek Road a little after 3:50.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff told reporters back in June that Bemis came outside with a shotgun and, despite attempts to de-escalate the situation, exchanged gunfire with two deputies.

Bemis was declared dead at the scene, and the deputy was taken to UPMC Hamot in Erie for treatment.
