In March 1965, a Soviet cosmonaut did what no human had ever done before.
His name was Alexei Leonov — the first man to step outside a spacecraft and walk in space.
Tethered by just a cable, Leonov floated above Earth for 12 breathtaking minutes, capturing humanity’s imagination.
But the mission almost ended in tragedy. His suit inflated in the vacuum, and he barely fit back inside the capsule.
Still, he survived, and became a hero of the Soviet Union.
Leonov paved the way for every astronaut who followed — and showed that mankind could truly leave the cradle of Earth.
This is the legacy… of Alexei Leonov, space pioneer.
