Do You Trust Me? Keeping Faith Through the Unthinkable

This message will challenge us to partner with God in a deeper, more intimate way.  It’s a call to trust God even when things don’t look the way we expect or thing]k they should. "I have made the Egyptians brave, so they will chase you. But I will show you that I am more powerful than Pharaoh and all of his horses and chariots.  Then Egypt will know that I am the Lord. They will honor me when I defeat Pharaoh and his horse soldiers and chariots.” Exodus 14:17-18 ERV   Our victory will come by obedience, faith, and dancing in step with the Holy Spirit, no matter what storms rage around us.

Partnering with the Holy Spirit: The Dance of Dominion

Have you ever felt like you’re waiting for God to tell you what to do, but instead, God is asking you what He should do through you? That’s the posture we need today. The dominion of the earth belongs to us, but it’s a partnership. It takes two to tango. God is saying, “Do you want to dance? I will lead, but I need your feet, your arms, your whole being.”

This isn’t about halfhearted obedience or partial commitment. It’s a call for everything—undiluted, uncompromised, undistracted devotion. When we surrender fully, God promises to dance us into victory, even when it doesn’t look like what we expect. This is the day the Lord has made, and we choose to rejoice and move forward in His power.

Trusting God When It Doesn’t Make Sense

Let me share a personal story that illustrates this perfectly. A few years ago, I received emails from two large companies, offering significant consulting and speaking contracts—contracts that would have brought much-needed financial relief. But God had spoken clearly: no more commercial work. No more consulting. No more speaking engagements that were not aligned with His specific calling.

Even though the offers were very large and tempting and the need was real, I chose to trust God’s word. I told them, “I’m not in that business anymore.” It was difficult, and for a moment, my wife and I questioned if we had made the right decision. But within 24 hours, an unsolicited offering came in—enough to sustain us for two months. God is faithful to provide, but His timing and methods are often unexpected.

That moment was a vivid reminder that obedience isn’t always easy or logical, but it’s always the right path. I encourage you to hold on to that truth, whatever you’re facing today. When God says no, it’s not because He’s withholding; it’s because He’s preparing something greater.

Lessons from Habakkuk: Expect the Unexpected

The book of Habakkuk is a profound study of wrestling with God’s ways. The prophet had questions about why evil seemed to triumph and why God would use wicked nations like Babylon to bring judgment on His people. Habakkuk’s questions are our questions:

Why do You tolerate wrongdoing?
Why do You use evil to judge evil?
How can You remain silent while the wicked prosper?

God’s answer was startling. He said, “Look among the nations and be amazed; I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if I told you.” But the work involved raising up the Babylonians—a ruthless, violent nation—to discipline His people. This was not the answer Habakkuk expected, and it challenges us to trust God’s sovereignty even when His ways seem mysterious or difficult to understand.

God’s Sovereignty Over Nations and Justice

Habakkuk reveals God’s justice and His control over the rise and fall of nations. The Babylonians, though wicked, were being used as an instrument of correction. Yet, God also pronounced woes against these oppressors, warning that their own judgment was coming. This reminds us that God uses even the most unlikely people and circumstances to accomplish His purposes, but He remains just and will bring accountability.

In today’s world, as we watch unfolding events in politics, society, and global conflicts, we can relate to Habakkuk’s struggle. Things don’t always look right, but God’s plan is unfolding. We must live by faith, trusting that “the righteous shall live by faith” and that God’s promises will stand true, even if they seem delayed.

Writing the Vision and Holding to the Promise

God instructed Habakkuk to “write the vision and make it plain so that a runner may read it.” This is a call for clarity, for holding firmly to the promises God has given us, even when the fulfillment seems slow. The vision will come to pass at the appointed time. It will not fail or be delayed. This is a promise for you and me today as well.

Living by faith means trusting God’s timing and His methods. It’s easy to become anxious or discouraged when things drag on or look bleak. But God is calling us to patience and perseverance, to keep running the race with eyes fixed on Him.

God’s Awesome Power and Presence

Habakkuk’s final prayer is a beautiful reflection on God’s power and majesty. He describes God as a mighty warrior who shakes the earth and conquers the wicked. This God is not tame or safe in the way the world often imagines Him. He is powerful, righteous, and ultimately good. Though His judgment may be fearsome, His heart is full of mercy and love for His people.

We serve a God who crushed the head of the serpent, who bore our sins on the cross, and who rose victorious. This same God is with us today, guiding us, strengthening us, and leading us into victory. When the enemy seems overwhelming, remember that God’s power is greater.

Walking in Obedience: The Path to Victory

Obedience is the key to unlocking God’s blessings. It’s not about convenience or comfort but about trusting God’s voice and walking in step with Him. When God says no to certain opportunities or calls us into a different season, it’s not to limit us but to prepare us for greater things.

Our obedience invites God’s presence and power into every area of our lives—our homes, workplaces, and communities. Like the man I met recently who wanted to merge business and ministry in a way that honors God without offending others, we are called to bring the light of Christ into every sphere.

Hope in the Midst of Challenges

Habakkuk’s story ends with hope, even in the face of devastation. The prophet declares:

“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.”

This is a declaration we can hold onto today. Even when circumstances seem bleak, when the future is uncertain, and when the enemy is active, we can rejoice. Because our God is faithful. He is our strength. He makes our feet like deer’s feet so that we can tread on high places. He brings us through fire and flood without being burned or drowned.

Living by Faith in a Shaking World

We live in days of shaking—political upheaval, social unrest, global conflict—but God is shaking everything for a purpose. He is shaking the heavens and the earth to remove what is unholy and bring forth His unshakable kingdom. The good news is that those who trust Him will not be shaken.

Our call is to live by faith, to trust God’s promises, and to walk in obedience. The righteous live by faith, not by sight or circumstance. God’s goodness and mercy endure forever, and He will carry us through every trial.

Take Dominion and Dance with God

God has given us dominion over the earth. It’s not a passive gift but an active calling. We partner with the Holy Spirit, dancing in step with Him, taking authority over the powers of darkness, and advancing the Kingdom of God. This dance requires full surrender—no holding back, no hesitation.

Will you say yes today? Will you give God your feet, your arms, your whole self? The dance of faith is intricate, but God promises to lead us into victory. When we trust Him fully, even when it doesn’t look like what we expect, we will see His glory revealed in our lives and in our nations.

Conclusion: Do You Trust Me?

As we reflect on Habakkuk’s journey and our own, the question remains: Do you trust me? God asks each of us this question daily. It’s a question that demands a response of faith, surrender, and obedience.

We may not understand all that God is doing. We may face challenges that seem insurmountable, but God’s word is sure. He is faithful to perform every promise He has made, even when it looks like the answer to our prayers is coming in an unexpected form.

So, let us choose to trust Him with all our hearts, to walk in lockstep with the Holy Spirit, and to partner with Him in the great work He is doing. Let us take dominion over our lives and our nations, rejoicing in the Lord, our strength and salvation.

Remember, it takes two to tango. God leads, but He needs your willing heart and surrendered life.

Let us dance together in faith, trusting God’s perfect plan and timing. The victory is coming. The glory of the Lord will fill the earth as the waters cover the sea. Until then, hold fast, live by faith, and rejoice in the God who never fails.
