AR-0175: The Bubblegum Crisis / A.D. Police franchise is one of the most well-regarded and iconic anime franchises in the anime world.

This 12-episode 1999 rejig of the original three-part OVA prequel to the original "Bubblegum Crisis" anime is arguably the weakest link in the franchise chain. Essentially an attempt to create the franchise's equivalent of the 1990s police drama "NYPD Blue", this is a prequel to "Bubblegum Crisis: Toyko 2040" and is centred on the Advanced Police - an elite unit of corporate police officers tasked solely with terminating rogue machines known as Boomers... But they may have met their match in a local terrorist who harbours a secret connection to the city's ruling corporation - and also to the A.D. Police's rookie member.

This anime lacks a clear focus and some of the characters aren't particularly well-defined, plus the story's central twist really does their most likeable member dirty.

My Grade: D [Bad]
