I Was Forced to Stop When I Got Bit While Pulling Weeds Bare Handed

When I showed up, this yard was a total mess—overgrown grass, weeds everywhere, and trash scattered across the property. At first glance, it looked bad… but as soon as I started cutting, I realized just how bad it really was.

There was way more trash hidden under the tall grass than I expected. Most of it had been left behind after back-to-back hurricanes that flooded this area. The homeowners had started putting things back together… only to be hit again, which set them even further behind.

While pulling weeds in the rock beds out back, I felt it—fire ants.
Not life-threatening, but enough bites to stop me in my tracks and force me to rethink how I was going to finish this job.

Even with the bites, the trash, and the flooding damage, I pushed through and got the yard cleaned up. The neighbors were beyond happy to see the property looking good again, though I didn’t get to meet the homeowner.
And as a bonus, I caught a rare sight while working: a mother and baby manatee in the waterway behind the house. A little reminder of why I love being out here doing what I do.
