The Indie Game Dev That Ruined His Career Because of Twitter

If you are a gamer that likes indie games, you might have heard of Phil Fish and his award-winning indie game title „Fez“, released for Microsoft’s Xbox in 2012.

Phil gained a celebrity status that was very unusual in the gaming community. He starred in the movie „Indie Game: The Movie“, alongside fellow indie game developers Edmund McMillen („Super Meat Boy“ & „The Binding of Isaac“) and Jonathan Blow („Braid“).

Unfortunately, his success in the gaming industry is not the only thing Phil is known for.

His controversies stole the spotlight from his popular game. Most of them caused with the help of the social media platform „Twitter“, now known as „X“.

Whether it is his criticism of the Japanese game industry or his fight with „4chan“, when he defended feminist activists „Anita Sarkeesian“ and „Zoe Quinn“ from the backlash of „GamerGate“.

At the end, Phil Fish left gaming behind, with many fans left disappointed.
