This is an unusual power bank of a type I have not seen before and it has some specialised features which may not be for everyone. It is probably best suited to an iPhone user able to make use of the features on offer.
In the simple branded product box was the power bank itself, a short USB-A to USB-C charging cable, and a poorly translated but nicely printed User Guide. I enclose a scan of it in my video. The build quality of the power bank seems fine and almost of premium quality. It is small enough at 11.99 x 3 x 2 cm to fit into a trouser pocket and weighing just 200g you would hardly know it was there.
The first thing that strikes you about this device is its stylish and upmarket appearance. It has a matt finish to the body with a small circular LED screen on the front. Along the front face are the ports – one Lightning input port, one USB-C PD 20w in/out port, and between them what seems to be a button which serves no purpose I can discern. The ports are not grommet protected, so keep this device out of the rain.
It has a capacity of 10,000 mAh, which is not great but enough for at least two charges on even the largest phone. It offers MagSafe wireless charging with 20W PD and QC3.0 fast charging from the input/output USB-C port. It can also be charged using the input only Lightning port. A small and very dim LED display shows the current charging status.
The smart ports will automatically deliver the maximum needed by the connected devices. The Lithium Polymer battery should fully charge the iPhone 16 and Samsung S8 twice, and the iPhone 8 three times. The device will start charging as soon as a device is connected and turn off when disconnected. The power bank itself takes around 3 hours to charge from flat using the 3A USB-c port.
One selling point is that the power bank is magnetic and so can attach itself to the exterior of your iPhone or other compatible device to allow for seamless wireless charging. It can charge a second device using USB-C as it wirelessly charges the first.
Matast's Multi-Protect safety system turns off any unusual charging at the start and prevents overheating and possible battery damage to your devices.
At the time of writing it is priced at a ridiculous £129.99 but expect this to fall to the £20 mark very soon. At that price, if you are an iPhone user and you need a simple no nonsense power bank for everyday use, this would be a good buy.
