11. Bardism Before Literature?

Delving into ancient bardism with this controversial text from the 18th century; 'The Barddas of Iolo Morganwg'. A talk on the bardic line, and the bards and druids of Britain, going back to ancient times. Thoughts on a 'homeland shamanism/bardism' of Britain, of which - in the modern world - our outcome is literature. Questions of text and memorisation, deism, pantheism, panentheism. Philosophy and theology of the earliest times, tribal make-up of the land, symbologies and alphabet. (Apologies for some probably very major slip-ups in Welsh pronunciation!) The origin of the material - despite my correcting myself at the beginning of the video - is still contested, i.e; we do not know how much of it is the bard, Iolo Morganwg, and how much Williams Ab Ithel. I personally believe this text heralds the re-emergence of fragments of an entire hermetic corpus practiced by the bardic schools of ancient Albion that conventional literature has at least partially ignored.

Although the book is available through the normal bookselling channels, such as:

https://www.bookdepository.com/Barddas-J-Williams-AB-Ithel/9781578633074?ref=grid-view&qid=1596025515244&sr=1-1

downloaded versions in pdf format can be found here, for Volume One:

https://www.globalgreyebooks.com/barddas-of-iolo-morganwg-volume-1-ebook.html

...and in a search at archive.org, only a Volume Two seems now to be digitally available:

https://archive.org/details/barddasoracolle00willgoog

...still, you should have the complete book with these two pdfs.

Other recommendations in the tradition of bardism and western esotericism might be; 'The White Goddess' by Robert Graves, 'The Welsh Triads', 'The Poet's Ogam' by John-Paul Patton, 'Irish Origins of Civilization' by Michael Tsarion, and any books by John and Caitlin Matthews (which I forgot to mention in this video. In fact any or all of these authors/works may well be included specifically in future talks).

Please like and subscribe to bring more attention to the channel!

The book by the Matthews's I've probably got most out of so far is this one: https://www.bookdepository.com/Walkers-Between-Worlds-Caitlin-Matthews/9780892810918?ref=grid-view&qid=1596108625636&sr=1-1
