Roots, Rights, & Reason - Episode 4 – Trump, The Courts, And The Fight To Restore Executive Power
Episode Four – Trump, The Courts, And The Fight To Restore Executive Power
In this episode of Roots, Rights & Reason, host Lee Smith welcomes attorney and political commentator Will Chamberlain to examine the origins and evolution of executive power under the U.S. Constitution.
Drawing on the failures of the Articles of Confederation and the lessons of Roman history, Chamberlain explains why the Founders created a single, energetic executive—not to mimic monarchy, but to ensure effective governance.
Together, they discuss the unitary executive theory, the rise of so-called independent agencies, and how judicial overreach, especially through nationwide injunctions, has threatened the president’s constitutional role. Chamberlain, who is Senior Counsel at the Article III Project, also analyzes recent court victories that could mark a return to the Founders’ vision of executive authority.
