Henderson SWAT team fatally shoots an armed 71-year-old during search warrant

Las Vegas, NV - A 71-year-old man was killed in a shooting involving Henderson police in the morning in a southeast Las Vegas valley neighborhood.

The shooting occurred around 7 a.m. in the 3800 block of Casa Colorado, near Mountain Vista Street and E. Twain Avenue.

During a briefing, Henderson police Sgt. Daniel Medrano said the incident began Wednesday around 5:40 p.m. when police were investigating a burglary involving a vehicle stolen on Imperia Drive, a luxury home neighborhood, near Grand Hills Drive and Eastern Avenue.

Medrano said officers followed the stolen vehicle to a home on Casa Colorado and requested a search warrant.

“At approximately 7 a.m., the Henderson Police Department SWAT team served the search warrant on the residence,” Medrano said. “Upon making entry, SWAT officers contacted a 71-year-old male and shots were fired.”

Police said one officer fire his weapon, striking the man, who was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No officers were injured during the encounter.
