Portugal, like many European Countries, is a study in contrasts. What I like to explore when I visit such places, is the historic homes, castles, beaches and natural wonders, and the culture that goes with it.
Before the coming of electricity, buildings were constructed where it was both convenient and where building materials could be found. Over the decades, some places were abandoned for one reason or another and the RUINS are very obvious. They are often not taken down. Instead, it is not unusual to see RUINS ajacent to new homes and buildings.
