The Process For Creating A New Boulder Problem On The Board

This video shows the process of creating a new problem on the board. The first step, in this case, was figuring out what "move" I wanted to do. That move was a toe hook on the side of the board to start the problem. Then I figured out what other holds I wanted to use.

Seeing the holds will often give you some ideas about the different moves and what you will need to do to perform them. But...what you think doesn't always work. So, you have to experiment with performing the moves different ways to find what works, what is easiest and what can be done when linking moves. Sometimes the best way to do a move in isolation is different from doing that move from the start of the boulder problem.

I do love this process. It's fun learning the subtleties of the moves and how to perform them. It can be easy to get frustrated, but just remember that it is a learning process. That's the great thing about the board....it's not going anywhere! So I can keep trying and trying and trying...This session was a practice or training session. Sure, I'm trying to do my best and send the problem, but the main focus is to learn and see if I can improve even the slightest bit.

All in all, this is a great problem. It's fun and I really haven't ended up changing much. Stay tuned for more sessions on this one!
