Rochester, NY - Rochester Police released body-worn camera video of what they say is a shootout between police and a murder suspect. They say the suspect fired at an officer, and then a second officer shot the suspect.

The shootout happened on North Clinton Avenue near Laforce Street the morning of Sunday, June 22. The suspect, 35-year-old Edison Estremera-Cohen, is accused of shooting and killing a man on Oscar Street hours earlier. He was hospitalized after being shot and is facing multiple charges.

In addition to the bodycam footage, RPD released video from a blue light camera. The full video is at the top of this story. Warning, some viewers may find it disturbing. Here’s what the videos show:

The first bodycam video belongs to an officer who was a passenger in the police cruiser that tracked down the suspect. Two officers were in the cruiser when they got reports that the suspect had been spotted around North Clinton Avenue on a bicycle. Once the cruiser stops, the passenger runs after the suspect, shouting, “he’s going northbound”.

While that first officer is running, the sound of gunfire can be heard. The officer appears to fire his gun at the suspect, and another officer tackles the man on the sidewalk. After that, a third officer, seen earlier in the video as the driver, arrives and handcuffs the suspect.

The first officer then asks for a medical kit, saying the suspect has “definitely been shot”. The video ends when the officer starts to put on gloves to treat the man.

The second bodycam video belongs to the driver of the police cruiser that tracked down the suspect. Once he stops the cruiser, the driver runs after the suspect.

The officer yells “shots fired” and “he’s grabbing his waistband.” The officer then arrives at the scene where the suspect is lying on the ground, with the two other officers around him. One officer is the passenger in the cruiser seen earlier in the video. The video ends when the other officer puts on gloves to treat the man.

RPD says the officer injured at the scene wasn’t wearing a body camera.
