While vacationing with family in Costa Rica, Warner drowned off the coast near Playa Cocles after being caught in a strong current. Authorities confirmed his cause of death as asphyxia.

Warner rose to fame as a teen, earning an Emmy nomination for his role on *The Cosby Show*. He later starred in *Malcolm & Eddie*, *Reed Between the Lines*, and *The Resident*, and won a Grammy in 2015 for Best Traditional R&B Performance. He was also a passionate advocate for Black culture, co-hosting the podcast *Not All Hood*.
