Using tool to release a shark bite plumbing connection

The brand name tool was used to quickly release a plumbing connection made by the Shark Bite company. At first the metal grips were on top of the plastic sleeves sticking out of the joint. Once the metal grippers were adjusted to be further out than the plastic sleeves, compressing the tool pushed the plastic sleeves into the joint, quickly releasing the steel "shark teeth" holding the joint firmly onto the copper water pipe. A crescent wrench had not worked to remove the joint. Also a tightened washer had not worked to push in the plastic sleeve. The tool was expensive from the home improvement store, but worked well with just one hand.
