I wrote this song inspired by the timeless duel between wit and chance, where courage is tested not by sword but by patience. The characters reflect the clash between pride and wisdom, and the subtle battles we face in life. I wanted to capture the irony and truth found in quiet moments, where friendship and folly are weighed like wine. It’s a reflection on human nature, and the courage it takes to stand firm when all seems uncertain.

Asks the brave with his sword in hand.
"Yes, if the sun isn't late," comes the mocking reply,
From one who won't take a stand.

The valiant hides his courage away,
While the crowd laughs as he walks astray.

Oh life! A duel of wit and chance,
The sun observes but won't advance.
Which weighs more when the glasses clink?
Friend or wine when the third cup's drunk?

A man once posed with mocking tone,
To she who sat on wisdom's throne:
"How can you be wise at all,
When you're but woman - weak and small?"

Her eyes like tempered steel grew bright,

"How comes a fool with ears to hear,
With working brain yet empty cheer?
The sun may judge both great and small -
But wisdom wears no crown at all."

The fool seems wise when he holds his tongue,
But shows his stripes when his speech is flung.

Oh life! A duel of wit and chance,
The sun observes but won't advance.

The king asks his jester so fine,
"Which is harder for men to find?
Good wine or friend to call your own?"
"Friend!" he laughs, "For wine can't whine!"
