New data has shown the potential dangers for women of taking antidepressants and SSRIs while pregnant, the potential that it could cause birth defects
.
“Some observational studies have suggested SSRIs taken during pregnancy may increase the risk of birth defects, miscarriage, and neurological and behavioral problems later in childhood.”

“At least one SSRI has been linked to heart defects in babies when exposed in the first trimester.”
.
“This birth defect may be due to the fact that serotonin may play a critical role in the development of the heart as well as the brain and the gut of babies in utero.”
