Stand-up Comedy: Religion, and the Double Standards of Misogyny

Here’s the deal: if there are creepy, should-be-eliminated men out there who are attracted to kids—who, by the way, don’t wear burkas—why is society still forcing nanna to throw on the full blackout curtain every time she wants to go buy lentils?

I’m not trying to start a holy war here, I’m just pointing out how insane it is that modesty rules never seem to apply to the men enforcing them.

Isn’t the whole point of the burka to prevent lust?

Then why is a 70-year-old woman expected to be treated like a potential siren every time she leaves the house?

What exactly do you think is going to happen?

Some teenager’s going to drop his falafel in a fit of geriatric desire?

I’ve always been drawn to where the sacred meets the stupid.

This joke lives right there—because rules made by men to control women never seem to involve logic.

(And different kinds of control take place right here in ‘Merica, which is sad.)
