A student was injured on Friday when plaster from the ceiling fell during class at the PM Shri Maharani Laxmibai Girls School in Bhopal’s Barkheda Pathani. The incident, captured on CCTV at 11:54 am, shows the teacher conducting the session when the plaster collapsed on a student at the front desk. The teacher and another student narrowly escaped.

The injured student was given first aid and sent home. The principal had already warned officials about weak, waterlogged ceilings in a letter to the District and Block Education Officers, but no action was taken.

The mishap highlights the poor condition of government schools in Madhya Pradesh. According to official data, over 1,000 schools are in dilapidated or no buildings, 12,000 have only one teacher, nearly 9,500 lack electricity, about 2,972 have no girls’ toilets, and more than 3,300 classrooms remain unbuilt despite approvals.

The education department has not issued any explanation yet, despite repeated attempts to contact officials.
