This one had everything stacked against it.
When I pulled up, I could tell the yard was in rough shape… but I had no idea just how bad it really was. Tall grass, invasive plants, and animal burrows everywhere. Before I even got started, I was already worried I might get bit by something. A few minutes later, a massive opossum darted out from under my feet. I’m not gonna lie—that one got me.
Then it went from bad to worse.
While I was mowing, I hit a hidden animal hole and my mower dropped—completely stuck. Then came the real gut check: I spotted a syringe in the yard and had to stop part of the job entirely for safety.
Oh, and every mower on the property? They were all Broke down.
The homeowner had just gotten out of surgery. He told me about how the house had flooded during a hurricane trashing his house and the mowers so cleaning up the property has been impossible for him. He even said he tried to pay a lawn care business but no one would touch it. while that's bad the real nightmare as the legal battle that followed with the insurance—months of fighting just to get the insurance payout. And still… no one had come to help.
So I stayed. I fought through it. I cleaned up the yard—and when a neighbor came out asking for a quote, I cleaned hers too. No charge.
