In July 2025, while South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol remains detained, a letter personally written by U.S. Ambassador Moss Tan was made public.

In the letter, Ambassador Moss Tan expressed deep respect for President Yoon’s courage and determination, stating, “The fight for freedom and justice will never be in vain.”

He further emphasized, “South Korea stands at the forefront of liberal democracy in Asia. The hardships faced by the President are the hardships of all of us, and they will surely be illuminated by history,” conveying strong support and solidarity.

At the end of the letter, Moss Tan added, “The international community is also closely watching South Korea and the President’s righteous struggle. I urge you to remain steadfast despite these difficulties.”

The letter was read aloud in front of the Seoul Detention Center by Jeon Han-gil (representative of Jeon Han-gil News and co-chair of the National Alliance for Fair Elections), with over 1,000 citizens and supporters gathered on site to listen together.

Ambassador Moss Tan’s direct support has caused a significant response both domestically and internationally, spreading a message of hope among the people amid political tensions.
