The 1909-S VDB is one of many key dates in the Lincoln cent series, meaning it's a crucial date for collectors to find or acquire. Only 484,000 of these coins were minted at the San Francisco Mint, making them rare compared to other Lincoln cents from the same year. The initials "VDB" (for Victor David Brenner) were placed on the reverse of the coin, but were quickly removed due to public complaints that they were too prominent. This removal created a scarcity of the "VDB" version, especially from the San Francisco Mint.
