In this tongue-in-cheek strategy game, players take on the roles of secret societies—such as the Bavarian Illuminati, the Discordian Society, or the Gnomes of Zürich—vying for world domination. Through cunning, alliances, and manipulation, players build power structures by controlling groups like the CIA, the Mafia, or even the Boy Sprouts, each with unique abilities, power, and resistance values. The game blends humor with conspiracy theory in-jokes, encouraging tactics like backstabbing, deal-making, and even cheating in some variants. Victory is achieved by either controlling a set number of groups or fulfilling your Illuminati’s special goal, such as the Bermuda Triangle’s quest to control one group of each alignment. With over 300 cards, two to eight players can engage in a 1-6 hour battle of wits, filled with strategic depth and satirical charm. The 1994 collectible card game Illuminati: New World Order expanded the concept, adding new cards and mechanics, while the 2020 Second Edition modernized the classic with updated art and references.
