President Assad Prophetic Warning Against Sectarianism (2016)

Speech from 2016, in which President Assad warned of the (Western/Israeli/Gulf/Turkish) plans for dividing Syria as a country and a people. Syrians under his leadership, and against all odds, resisted this heroically for the duration of the global war on Syria.

Following the ouster of the legitimate Syrian President, replaced by an al-Qaeda "government" of murderers, rapists, thieves, terrorists, the safe, multi-faith, beautiful secular Syria that we knew and loved has been all but destroyed.

President Assad's warning was tragically prophetic.💔

"Their plan was to undermine the constitution and then unleash absolute chaos—chaos that could only be resolved by imposing an ethnically and sectarian-based constitution. This would turn us from a people united by their homeland into fragmented groups, each clinging to its sect and seeking help from outsiders against its own fellow citizens and brothers.

What I’m saying is, in my view, self-evident—I’m not presenting anything new. The sectarian models we see, whether to our east or west, are clear examples. The events speak for themselves; there’s no need to reassess this issue after decades of experience in our region.

A sectarian system turns citizens of the same country into enemies and rivals. And wherever there are enemies and rivals, each side will seek allies. In such a scenario, those allies will not be found within Syria—or within any homeland, for that matter—because relationships [between these groups] are driven by suspicion, hatred, and resentment. That’s why the ally is always found abroad, and that's where the colonial powers step in."
