Australian innovation promises faster, safer landmine clearance

A handheld device using low-frequency radio waves to identify the molecular signatures of explosives provides a "technological jump" in the detection of landmines, the device's developers say. Unlike traditional metal detectors or ground-penetrating radar, which detect metals or shapes, the device from MRead in collaboration with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation can confirm the presence of specific explosives.
