Leader line malfunction, missed a good one

You can do everything right and still not get the fish in the boat. My mistake; recently my leader line broke. Leader line is floracarbon 15# line attached to the end of my 30# braided line. The leader line is less visible to the fish than the braided.

So I recently lost a lure that got caught on a rock. The line usually breaks near the hook in such a situation, but in my case the leader line was entirely missing. It made me concerned that I needed to replace all my leader line.

So I did. And when I did I made it much longer like 7'. I was hoping that the knot would revive less wear this way, but the down side was this - when reeling in a fish the knot of the leader line tends to get stuck on the end eyelet.

I discovered this today and now I have removed all the new leader line and put on fresh leader line that is about 3-4' long. Now I can easily get the bass in the boat.

Note: I was watching Major League Fishing in the Potomac. The winner was using this jig with soft plastic craw looking lure. I thought I would try it. It worked! Thank you MLF! I'm looking forward to the next event in September.

Fish On!!
