Somalia: Al-Qaeda-Linked Al-Shabaab Terrorists Capture Key Somali Town Tardo | Firstpost Africa | N18G

Al-Shabaab militants are intensifying their offensive across central Somalia, capturing multiple towns in a major resurgence. In the latest, the al-Qaeda-linked group seized Tardo in the Hiraan region after driving out pro-government clan fighters, forcing over 12,000 families to flee. Since January, Al-Shabaab has taken at least six towns in Hiraan and Middle Shabelle. The group, which seeks to impose a strict Islamic state, remains active despite years of military pressure. Recent attacks include a hotel siege in Beledweyne and an attempted assassination of Somalia’s president. With the African Union scaling back and U.S. support uncertain, Somalia faces growing threats.
