Pune, Maharashtra — In a heart-rending accident on the Talegaon-Chakan highway on Monday morning (14th), a 26-year-old human resource development officer was crushed to death under a speeding container while on his way to work.

The deceased has been identified as Gajanan Baburao Bolkekar, a resident of Bolka village, Kandhar taluka, Nanded district. He was employed as an HR at Panse Auto Com Unit in MIDC Chakan and had married just three months ago.

According to police, Gajanan was riding pillion with his colleague Aditya Gaikwad (23) on a two-wheeler, heading towards their company around 7:45 am. Near Hyundai Chowk in Khalumbe village limits, the container — allegedly driven recklessly by Mohammad Armaan Kamaruddin Khan (30), a resident of Dharavi, Mumbai — attempted to overtake them at high speed.

The two-wheeler skidded and Gajanan, seated at the back, fell under the rear wheels of the container and was crushed to death on the spot. Aditya Gaikwad sustained injuries in the crash.

The impact was so severe that Gajanan’s body was mangled, said officials. He had reportedly asked Aditya for a lift that morning as he was late for work.

Based on a complaint by eyewitness Vijay Shankarrao Tantarpale (24), Mhalunge MIDC police have booked Mohammad Khan for causing death by negligence.

Residents and commuters have blamed the hazardous conditions of the Talegaon-Chakan road — marked by potholes, congestion and reckless driving — for repeated fatal accidents.

Gajanan’s tragic and untimely death has left his family and colleagues shocked, with many mourning the loss of a young man who had just begun his married life.
