1. The Ferryman History

The Ferryman is the 1st song from The Madman. This introduction sets the supernatural pace on this trip down the rabbit hole. We learn about an unnamed unique individual who is not normal. We get hints of their abnormality and their purpose. We also learn that there is a love tragedy and that this story goes beyond life and into the realm of death.
Musically this song resembles a sea shanty with the first two verses. The chorus are bright and brilliant. The bridge is the same chords as the verse. However the tempo is increased and it is played differently.
Lyrically it borders on the mentally disturbed. The song is sung from the characterisation of Charon. The ferryman of the River of Styx. Carrier of souls into the realm of death. It is sung in an operatic form giving a nod to our past. The chorus is a testament to that old form of composition. We pick it up in the final verse/bridge to get the blood pumping. Welcome to the madness. You will not be the same.
